Martin and Theodore Bikel, opens on Broadway.
The story of
Maria and the Von Trapp family would win five Tony Awards
and run till 1963 for 1,443 performances.
It introduced a number of songs that would become classics,
including Do-Re-Mi, and the title song The Sound of
Music.
The play was made into a 1965 film, starring Julie
Andrews
