In honor of Smokey the Bear (do you remember these ads?)

Let's make a wildlife tag.  Must have a bear in it!!

Smokey Bear

American black bear, national symbol for forest fire prevention.

The forest service had been using a cartoon version of Smokey Bear since 1944.

When a bear cub was rescued from a New Mexico wildfire in 1950, he became the live embodiment of that cartoon.

By 1964, his fan mail was so great that he was given his own zip code, 20252.

"Only You Can Prevent Wildfires."
